Emergency Planning
Whenever you are attacked, you should:
- Understand the cycle of violence and protect yourself when you recognize that another violent episode could occur.
- Have a room in your house that has a strong lock.
- Keep a bag or suitcase packed.
- Hide extra money, car keys, and important documents (such as marriage license, divorce decree, social security cards, and birth certificates) in a safe place so you can get to them quickly.
- Teach your children or encourage the neighbor to call police during an attack.
- Have a place for you to go in an emergency (such as a shelter, motel, or home of a friend or relative).
- As soon as you are able, call the police and get names of the officers in case there is need to have a record of the attack.
- Leave the house and take the children with you whenever possible.
- Go to the hospital or ask for medical attention when you are in a safe place.

Victim's Rights
Abuse is never your fault. You are not the cause of your abuser's behavior. You have the right...
- Not to be abused.
- To leave.
- To ask for help.
- To make life choices and changes.
- To be safe.
- To leave.
